May 7, 2013 – RALEIGH, N.C. – On Wednesday, May 8th, TransLoc, Inc. is being honored by the White House as Champion of Change for their leadership in rider-facing transit technology. TransLoc’s technology makes using transit easier by providing live bus tracking via mobile applications and the web. Founder and CEO, Josh Whiton, will be accepting the award at the White House on TransLoc’s behalf.

TransLoc was nominated by a Federal Transit Administration official for “having an incredibly positive and widespread impact on the way people think about and use public transit…[they are] making it easier and more convenient for transit riders to access real time information about the location of buses and it encourages people to take public transit.”

Through the Champions of Change program, the White House recognizes different groups of Americans who are making positive change in their communities. This year’s theme is Transportation Technology Solutions for the 21st Century. This Champions of Change event will focus on individuals and organizations that have provided exemplary leadership in developing and implementing transportation technology solutions to enhance performance, reduce congestion, improve safety, and facilitate communication across the transportation industry at the local, state or national level.

TransLoc powers GoLive (live.gotriangle.org), America’s first unified regional passenger information platform. The nominating official states, “TransLoc has unified [seven] public transit agencies in the greater Research Triangle area … Since launching TransLoc’s passenger information system in November 2011, Triangle Transit bus ridership has increased by more than 26%, customer satisfaction is up, and the number of phone calls from the call center to dispatchers has decreased by 68%.”

According to Josh Whiton, “Empowering mass transit with the best technology is a job that is never done. Technological barriers continue to fall making new things possible every day. That is why the TransLoc mission, ‘Revolutionize Transit for Riders,’ is still so exciting.”

TransLoc is one of ten honorees that will gather Wednesday, May 8th from 10:00am-12:00pm EDT in the South Court Auditorium, Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB), the White House.
