October 9, 2015 – Durham, NC — A new mobile survey option for TransLoc’s Traveler product enables transit agencies to understand the needs and preferences of their riders in real time, radically improving their ability to plan for and adapt their system to the community they serve. This gives the rider a voice and offers the transit agency a feedback tool for planning that has not existed until now, available only through TransLoc Traveler.

Despite the immediacy of today’s technology, transit agencies still rely on limited paper-and-pencil surveys conducted every few years in order to make long-term plans. By surveying the thousands of users that rely on TransLoc’s rider-facing mobile app, agencies can track rider satisfaction and sentiment in an immediate and ongoing manner.

“Bridging the gap between riders and agencies is essential to moving transit forward in a meaningful way,” said Doug Kaufman, TransLoc CEO. “Our extensive track record with both groups has uniquely positioned us to bridge that divide in a way that empowers both of them.”

The addition of mobile surveys builds on Traveler’s innovative foundation, which is creating a bidirectional connection between transit agencies and their riders for the first time. As a visualization and planning tool it allows agencies to truly understand their riders’ origins and destinations and communicate directly with them on a route and stop level. With the added ability to gather feedback from riders via smartphones, TransLoc is helping agencies reclaim resources while giving the riders a voice to influence the transit system they depend on.

For transit agencies that run their service through third-party operators, the new Survey capabilities provide a metric for operator performance and accountability. This is the first time agencies will be able to hear directly and immediately from riders regarding how well operators are fulfilling service.

Traveler’s Survey feature was developed in partnership with CJI Research and integrates seamlessly into the TransLoc Rider app, which has become indispensable to transit riders—over 75% use the app 2 times per day, 5 days a week.
