Honored for Successful Microtransit Program in Snellville, GA

DURHAM, N.C., July 12, 2019 -- TransLoc, a provider of demand-response solutions for agency-owned microtransit, and Gwinnett County Transit were announced joint winners of an “Innovative Solutions Award” by METRO Magazine, the world’s most influential trade publication for the transit and motor coach industries.

Gwinnett County Transit partnered with TransLoc to implement a highly successful on-demand, door-to-door microtransit service in the previously underserved area of Snellville, Georgia. As the first microtransit service launched in the state of Georgia, it exceeded everyone’s expectations completing over 44,622 rides.

"It was a real partnership between TransLoc and the County to experience the success for this project,” said Karen Winger, Gwinnett County Government Transit Division Director. “I am glad TransLoc will be receiving the recognition for their part in it."

The “Innovation Solutions Award” recognizes implementation of new transit initiatives that run more efficiently, streamline operations, improve customer satisfaction and safety, and increase ridership. TransLoc's technology enables public transit agencies to offer flexible, on-demand ridesharing through a mobile app that provides the responsiveness and convenience riders familiar with TNC services like Uber and Lyft have come to expect.

Snellville is a part of Gwinnett County that has been without a local public transportation service for a long time. The community has been very vocal about their need for a service and since Snellville didn’t have the population density to warrant a regular bus route, Gwinnett County Transit was challenged to come up with an alternative solution. Gwinnett decided to partner with TransLoc in order to offer the residents in Snellville a microtransit solution to transport them from their homes to medical appointments, shopping centers, places of employment, and other local destinations.

“An award like this recognizes the need in many of America’s communities to have a transit service that both complements fixed routes and fills service gaps,” said TransLoc Vice President of Customers Ron Cygnarowicz. “It has been an honor to watch how Gwinnett’s microtransit service greatly improved the quality of life for so many Snellville residents.”

The 2019 METRO “Innovative Solutions Awards” will be distributed in Indianapolis this September at BusCon, North America's largest bus show, showcasing the latest industry trends to over 1,300 industry influencers in public and private transit.
