Jamie Howard is not only TransLoc’s Director of Engineering, he is a passionate advocate for assimilating military veterans into the civilian workforce. Howard served with both the US Army Infantry in the 101st Airborne Division and the North Carolina National Guard Infantry in the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team, deploying to Iraq with the 1st Infantry Division in 2004.

Jamie HowardHoward believes his military experience gave him skills to be a better leader. “I learned early on that training and directing teams requires respect, empowerment, and most of all, trust,” he said. “These lessons apply equally to small unit tactics in the military and self organizing agile teams in software development.”

According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, military veterans make good employees because they:

  • Work well in a team
  • Have a sense of duty
  • Are organized and disciplined
  • Possess a strong work ethic
  • Are able to problem solve quickly and creatively
  • Are able to adapt to changing situations
  • Are able to follow rules and schedules

TransLoc agrees. “TransLoc identifies the unique skill set and valuable perspective our military veterans bring to the table,” said VP of People Katie Strickland. “We actively seek out veterans for our job openings, and we also make sure we post our positions on veteran job seeking websites.”

Additionally, TransLoc supports veteran causes, including The Honor Foundation. This December, TransLoc will participate in the “Honor Trek” program where company vets and leadership will meet with recent military veterans to coach them on how to assimilate into civilian careers after active duty.

This Veteran’s Day, TransLoc salutes all military veterans for their honor, courage and commitment to our country... particularly the dedicated team of veterans who report to duty at TransLoc every day.
